St. Lawrence University recently captured headlines for winning a five-year National Science Foundation grant worth more than $600,000. The funds will be used to establish a new liberal arts science scholars program that is focused on helping underrepresented groups succeed at careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The scholars program will award scholarships to 20 students in underrepresented groups who plan to select majors in mathematics, geology, chemistry, computer science, physics or a non-clinical track of biology. Half of the scholarships will go to first-year students in the fall of 2015, and another 10 scholarships will be reserved for students beginning school in 2016.
