The managing director of investments and wealth management, Keefe Gorman works at Merrill Lynch in Ithaca, New York. A member of many nonprofit organizations, Keefe Gorman contributes to Meals on Wheels America. Meals on Wheels America pairs meal deliveries to older people living alone with regular social interaction with the deliverer to combat malnutrition, loneliness, and isolation in this population.
Meals on Wheels began in Philadelphia in 1954, by a group of local volunteers. Their meal delivery services expanded over the years, taking root in over 5,000 cities nationwide. Via a combination of local, state, federal, and private funding sources, the organization can deliver its meals, with the necessary staff, at a wider scale than other groups of its kind. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Meals on Wheels started the Make Good Go Further campaign, mobilizing its preexisting resources, and expanding its capacity. It donated 1,000 grants, totaling over 31.3 million dollars, to 628 individual hospitals, directly assisting frontline workers. By July of 2020 their volunteers delivered over 19 million meals, serving an additional 1 million older adults.

7/13/2018 0 Comments The Basics of Kart RacingA financial advisor with a career that spans three decades, Keefe Gorman serves as managing director of investments and wealth management advisor with the offices of Merrill Lynch in Ithaca, New York. In his free time, Keefe Gorman is an avid karting enthusiast. A successful go-kart run begins by selecting the proper kart. For greater control, wise drivers may want to look for vehicles with fresher tires. New drivers should be sure that they don’t fall prey to the higher speeds of particularly powerful karts that may lead to drifting and a loss of control. While driving, the most important thing to remember is to enter turns slow, but exit them fast. This technique enables drivers to keep momentum throughout the race, maintaining control while maximizing speed. Likewise, drivers should strive for constant speed by smoothly applying the accelerator and brakes as needed. Sudden jerking movements while speeding up and slowing down will inevitably lead to higher finishing times. Keefe Gorman has worked as a leader in the financial industry for more than three decades. He began his career with Merrill Lynch in 1987 and has since received various awards and accolades from the likes of Forbes and Barron’s. Beyond his wealth management activities with organizations such as Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman enjoys staying active through skiing and tennis, among other outdoor interests. The serve is arguably the most important shot in the sport of tennis, as it is the only shot during which a player has complete control over the ball. One important aspect of effective serve strategy is mixing in a variety of serves, with flat, slice, and top spin serves being the three most common types in a player’s arsenal. The flat serve can be viewed as the basic service motion, though for power players and skilled servers it represents a potent offensive weapon. As the name implies, flat serves travel in a flat, direct line across the court, over the net, and into the opponent’s service box. Due to the lack of spin, flat serves travel quickly and bounce low. However, this same lack of spin gives flat serves little margin for error, as they can easily clip the top of the net, or land long or wide of the service box. Slice and top spin serves are slower and less powerful compared to flat serves, but can provide players with the advantage in a point through surprise and placement. For right-handed players serving from the deuce court, slice serves cut diagonally across the court and continue to spin away after bouncing, dragging returners off the court. Top spin serves accomplish a similar task from the ad court, though top spin is better used to jam returners with a high-bouncing serve than to pull opponents off the court. Though versatile, spin serves can be attacked by skilled returners should the shot be poorly disguised. As players improve their service games, they can develop more nuanced shots, such as the kick serve. Also known as a body serve, this shot mixes both top spin and slice to create an unpredictably breaking, high-bouncing shot that is very effective at throwing a returner off of their rhythm. For his achievements at Merrill Lynch, Forbes chose Keefe Gorman as one of its top advisers in New York state for 2018. Implemented by SHOOK Research, the Forbes lists derive from quantitative and qualitative data. Telephone and in-person interviews supplement metrics of a given adviser’s performance. The research company takes nominations from brokerages, banks, insurance companies, and other members of the financial community. Prospects must have seven years’ advisory experience, with at least one year at the nominating firm. The recipient of a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Lawrence University, Keefe Gorman is a Merrill Lynch financial advisor who has been recognized as a Top Advisor by Forbes. Outside of his work with Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman is a regular supporter of numerous nonprofit organizations, including ShelterBox USA. Founded in 2000, ShelterBox has since provided emergency shelter to more than 1.1 million people affected by natural disasters. Below are three countries the ShelterBox USA affiliate, established in 2004, have recently supported. 1. Bolivia - In February 2018, one month's worth of rain fell within 24 hours and caused severe flooding and landslides that destroyed homes and forced families to seek shelter elsewhere. ShelterBox USA officials are in Bolivia working with trusted partners to best determine how to help families who lost their homes. 2. Iraq - Despite the liberation of Mosul from Islamic State Control in July 2017, there was still a significant need for aid in the city as displaced families slowly returned to the region. Through its partners in Iraq, ShelterBox USA has provided shelter and essential aid to more than 8,000 families. 3. Philippines - Tropical Storm Temblin triggered flooding and mudslides that resulted in the death of more than 200 people in late December 2017. Additionally, more than 140,000 citizens were forced to leave their homes and take up residence in evacuation centers. ShelterBox USA has supported nearly 1,000 families with ShelterBoxes, ShelterKits, solar lights, and water carriers. The holder of a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Lawrence University, Keefe Gorman is a Merrill Lynch-affiliated Certified Financial Planner professional who serves the firm as managing director of investments. Beyond his work with Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman is a passionate hockey fan. It's not often career accountants have the opportunity to dress for, let alone play in, a National Hockey League (NHL) game, but that was the case for 36-year-old goaltender Scott Foster, who stopped all seven shots he faced for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. The Blackhawks starting goaltender suffered an injury just hours prior to the game and, without enough time to call up a goaltender from the minor leagues, Chicago signed Foster to a one-day contract to fill in. Foster estimated he has participated in more than a dozen games as an emergency backup this season, but that role always included watching the game from the press box. It was a much different experience this time, as he was called into the game in the third period when Blackhawks goaltender Collin Delia experienced cramps. A native of Sarnia, Ontario, Foster spent parts of three seasons with Western Michigan University from 2002 to 2006 and currently plays in a pair of recreational leagues. Experienced financial planner Keefe Gorman recently celebrated his 30th work anniversary with Merrill Lynch, where he serves as managing director. Outside of his everyday work at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Last September, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society announced its plan to donate funds to those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. The organization pledged $1 million to help patients suffering from blood cancers who had been negatively impacted by the hurricane. Through the program, patients can receive up to $500 each to help with travel costs, replacement medicines, and other health-related needs. During the announcement, LLS President and CEO Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., spoke about the additional suffering that blood cancer patients would have to deal with while rebuilding their homes. He then vowed that his organization would do what it takes to provide direct support to such patients. To learn more about the plan or to sign up for aid, visit www.lls.org/hurricane-harvey-relief. Titled Cáncer de Seno Claro y Sencillo, it provides answers to commonly asked questions about the disease. The book, intended for newly diagnosed patients, also comes with helpful illustrations and information that could help them decide whether they should consider breast reconstruction. In the official press release, ACS board member Dr. Carmen E. Guerra touted the book’s easy-to-follow format, which makes it a vital primary resource for those just learning about the implications of their diagnosis. Apart from consulting leading experts, the ACS also solicited the input of breast cancer survivors in constructing the book. It is also available in English.
