The recipient of a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Lawrence University, Keefe Gorman is a Merrill Lynch financial advisor who has been recognized as a Top Advisor by Forbes. Outside of his work with Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman is a regular supporter of numerous nonprofit organizations, including ShelterBox USA.
Founded in 2000, ShelterBox has since provided emergency shelter to more than 1.1 million people affected by natural disasters. Below are three countries the ShelterBox USA affiliate, established in 2004, have recently supported.
1. Bolivia - In February 2018, one month's worth of rain fell within 24 hours and caused severe flooding and landslides that destroyed homes and forced families to seek shelter elsewhere. ShelterBox USA officials are in Bolivia working with trusted partners to best determine how to help families who lost their homes.
2. Iraq - Despite the liberation of Mosul from Islamic State Control in July 2017, there was still a significant need for aid in the city as displaced families slowly returned to the region. Through its partners in Iraq, ShelterBox USA has provided shelter and essential aid to more than 8,000 families.
3. Philippines - Tropical Storm Temblin triggered flooding and mudslides that resulted in the death of more than 200 people in late December 2017. Additionally, more than 140,000 citizens were forced to leave their homes and take up residence in evacuation centers. ShelterBox USA has supported nearly 1,000 families with ShelterBoxes, ShelterKits, solar lights, and water carriers.
The holder of a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Lawrence University, Keefe Gorman is a Merrill Lynch-affiliated Certified Financial Planner professional who serves the firm as managing director of investments. Beyond his work with Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman is a passionate hockey fan.
It's not often career accountants have the opportunity to dress for, let alone play in, a National Hockey League (NHL) game, but that was the case for 36-year-old goaltender Scott Foster, who stopped all seven shots he faced for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. The Blackhawks starting goaltender suffered an injury just hours prior to the game and, without enough time to call up a goaltender from the minor leagues, Chicago signed Foster to a one-day contract to fill in.
Foster estimated he has participated in more than a dozen games as an emergency backup this season, but that role always included watching the game from the press box. It was a much different experience this time, as he was called into the game in the third period when Blackhawks goaltender Collin Delia experienced cramps. A native of Sarnia, Ontario, Foster spent parts of three seasons with Western Michigan University from 2002 to 2006 and currently plays in a pair of recreational leagues.
Experienced financial planner Keefe Gorman recently celebrated his 30th work anniversary with Merrill Lynch, where he serves as managing director. Outside of his everyday work at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Last September, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society announced its plan to donate funds to those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. The organization pledged $1 million to help patients suffering from blood cancers who had been negatively impacted by the hurricane. Through the program, patients can receive up to $500 each to help with travel costs, replacement medicines, and other health-related needs.
During the announcement, LLS President and CEO Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., spoke about the additional suffering that blood cancer patients would have to deal with while rebuilding their homes. He then vowed that his organization would do what it takes to provide direct support to such patients.

An accomplished financial advisor with 30 years of experience, Keefe Gorman serves as managing director of investments at Merrill Lynch. Beyond his professional responsibilities at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman also supports nonprofit organizations such as the American Cancer Society (ACS).
In support of its mission to spread cancer awareness, the ACS recently organized the publication of a new book designed to help Spanish-speaking women better understand breast cancer. Titled Cáncer de Seno Claro y Sencillo, it provides answers to commonly asked questions about the disease. The book, intended for newly diagnosed patients, also comes with helpful illustrations and information that could help them decide whether they should consider breast reconstruction.
In the official press release, ACS board member Dr. Carmen E. Guerra touted the book’s easy-to-follow format, which makes it a vital primary resource for those just learning about the implications of their diagnosis. Apart from consulting leading experts, the ACS also solicited the input of breast cancer survivors in constructing the book. It is also available in English.

Although New York is perhaps best known for its urban centers, the state is also home to a variety of mountainous terrain that helps make it an excellent ski destination. While New York’s excellent skiing is no secret to locals, some outside of the state may be surprised to learn that New York features more ski areas than anywhere else in the country. Among its over 40 ski locales are several destination resorts, including Gore Mountain, Windham Mountain, and Whiteface Lake Placid.
Home to more skiable acres than any other New York resort, Gore Mountain offers 107 trails and 27 glades as well as excellent off-hill attractions. For something a little closer to New York City, many area skiers head to Windham Mountain. This Catskills resort boasts 269 skiable acres and prides itself on providing something for skiers of all ability levels.
With a name recognized worldwide, Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid is a premier resort with the highest vertical drop east of the Rockies. Those who visit the resort can easily see why it was chosen twice to host the Winter Olympics.
Keefe Gorman is the managing director for Merrill Lynch in Ithaca, New York. Before he started his nearly 30-year career that launched him to his management position at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman was a Vilas Scholar at St Lawrence University, where he received a bachelor of arts in economics.
The Bodman Foundation of New York City founded the Vilas Scholarship in 1976 in honor of an accomplished Wall Street financier named Homer A. Vilas who graduated from St. Lawrence in 1913. Not only was Mr. Vilas a successful businessman, he was also a philanthropist to many charities, including his St. Lawrence University.
The scholarship is for $88,000 for four years of study, and it goes to students who wish to pursue a liberal arts degree as a preparation for a business career. However, they are not required to declare a major in business in the liberal arts. After graduation, Vilas Scholars are assisted further by introducing them to colleagues in the alumni network.
A top-ranked financial advisor, Keefe Gorman works with clients as a managing director of investments at Merrill Lynch in Ithaca, New York. Beyond his work at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman dedicates his time and resources to several organizations, including ShelterBox USA, a nonprofit that provides emergency shelter and support services for individuals and families affected by conflict and natural disasters.
For over five years, ShelterBox has been working on the ground in Syria and the surrounding region assisting those who have been displaced by civil war. Since the beginning of the conflict in 2011, more than 12 million Syrians have been left without homes. The conflict has also spilled over into neighboring countries and led to the displacement of an additional 3.2 million people in Iraq.
Working in partnership with organizations such as Hand in Hand for Syria and ReliefAid, ShelterBox has distributed tents, its ShelterKits, and other non-food items to individuals throughout Syria, Iraq, Greece, Turkey, and Lebanon. The organization’s ShelterKits distributed across the region contain family-size tents, water purification equipment, and other materials suited to the season and regional climate.
Today, ShelterBox continues to assist with the Syrian refugee crisis, which is severely underfunded. Those who would like to advance ShelterBox’s efforts in Syria can donate directly to the organization’s Syrian refugee crisis fund. Donations to the fund help cover the cost of life-saving equipment as well as on-the-ground transportation and collaboration. For more information, visit www.shelterboxusa.org.
Wealth management advisor for Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman has 30 years of professional experience. When he’s not working hard at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman enjoys ice hockey.
In April of 2017, the commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL), Gary Bettman announced that after five straight winter Olympics participating, the NHL would not allow a break in its schedule to permit its players to participate in the 2018 games in PyeongChang.
Bettman explained his decision was a result of a variety of compelling reasons. Surveys by NHL fans indicated that they were against the break and teams complained of the disruption to their season. He also said that many teams were punished by losing players to injuries sustained during the Olympics.
The cost was another reason why the NHL decided against participation. The International Olympic Committee had paid all of the associated costs for the previous Olympic Games, but they had informed the NHL that it would not foot the bill in 2018. While they eventually agreed to pay, Bettman thought the money would come from other worthy programs.
Keefe Gorman is a managing director and wealth advisor with Merrill Lynch in New York. When he is not working with clients at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman spends time and resources contributing to charitable organizations such as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Meals on Wheels.
The Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is a national charity that provides food and other necessary items to older adults who may struggle to complete grocery shopping on their own. It should be noted that the MOWAA mission extends far beyond grocery shopping, with programs around the United States offering a number of unique services to meet the specific needs of the local senior population.
MOWAA Volunteers are tasked with not only acquiring and delivering food, but also with providing older adults with companionship and an added sense of security. MOWAA visits provide seniors an opportunity to converse with a visitor, while volunteers can check on an individual’s health and living situation. In some areas, MOWAA volunteers actually drive adults to local markets, or to MOWAA food events that bring together local residents. More than 2 million volunteers are joined in this mission by local businesses and organizations sharing the same passion for a united community.
More information on services and volunteer opportunities appears online at www.mealsonwheels.org.
