When he is not playing this role at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman enjoys spending time with his wife and children, and playing golf.
Golfers rank few prizes above the ace, more commonly known as the hole in one. Robert Mitera achieved what was arguably the most impressive hole in one in golf history during a 1965 round at the Miracle Hills Gold Club in Omaha, Nebraska. Mitera drove the ball more than 440 yards to record the longest known hole in one at the 10th hole. The flag was not visible from the tee, and Mitera only realized his feat when he reached the green and was informed of it by another golfer. Another record holder is Mancil Davis, with the largest number of professional aces, logging 51 total hole-in-one shots over the course of his PGA career. As for Jake Paine, he became the youngest recorded player to achieve a hole in one on a 65-yard drive at age three, while Harold Stilson of Boca Raton, Florida, made a 108-yard ace at the age of 101 to become the oldest recognized player to achieve a hole in one. There are also a number of records involving players who have made multiple aces in close succession. For example, professional golfer, Craig Thomas, aced two of three holes during a practice round at the Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, New York. Throughout his career as a financial advisor, Keefe Gorman has garnered accolades such as placement on Barron's Best 100 Brokers of 2005 and Top 100 Advisors of 2004 lists. Active in his community, Keefe Gorman has sat on the board of directors for the Rotary Club of Ithaca Sunrise since 2010.
Located in upstate New York, the Rotary Club of Ithaca Sunrise serves as a branch of Rotary International. As one of 34,000 clubs around the world, this unit follows the “service above self” philosophy espoused by Rotarians across the globe. Meeting every Thursday at 7:30 A.M. at the Royal Court Restaurant, the entity adopted the “Sunrise” portion of its name due to these early morning get-togethers. Throughout the year, the Rotary Club of Ithaca Sunrise participates in numerous projects that aid its neighborhood as well as people around the world. In June 2013, Gorman talked to the Ithaca Times about one of his group's recent endeavors in South America: inspired by the lack of adult language training programs in Ovalle, Chile, Rotary International developed an English language laboratory there. Thanks to the group's remarkable infrastructure, which allows for local clubs and districts to match the amount raised by the areas being helped, the Rotary Club of Ithaca Sunrise eventually managed to acquire more than $25,000 for the cause, starting from an initial donation of just $1,500. 10/2/2014 0 Comments Tips for Smart HikingKeefe Gorman graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in economics. Currently serving as an investment advisor at Merrill Lynch, Keefe Gorman fills his spare time with physically engaging pastimes, such as hiking and mountain biking.
Sufficient preparation is the first step toward a safe and enjoyable hiking experience. This may involve considerations like monitoring the weather forecast and gauging how much food, water, and supplies will be required for the hike. It is also important for hikers to know their personal limitations: after becoming familiar with a trail or mountain, hikers must evaluate the distance they can endure and how much time they should give themselves to complete the hike. For those with physical issues, it is important never to feel pressured to keep pace with fellow hikers. Finally, hikers should never go out trekking alone. Tackling even the simplest trail can lead to a sprained ankle or period of unexpected exhaustion. Having a friend around to help can prevent serious complications. 8/16/2014 0 Comments Popular Things to Do in ChileCurrently a manager director at Merrill Lynch in Ithaca, New York, Keefe Gorman spent his earlier years living, skiing, and traveling throughout South America. Although he visited Bolivia and Peru, Keefe Gorman spent most of his time on the continent in Chile, where he lived near Los Andes in the Andes Mountains.
Chile is a fascinating country that offers visitors great natural beauty, delicious cuisine, and a vibrant culture. When visiting the capital of Santiago, the peak of Cerro San Cristóbal is a great place for viewing the city and the Andes Mountains on a clear day. The hill is home to Santiago’s largest public park, Parque Metropolitano, which has a zoo, two swimming pools, and a botanical garden. Visitors to Cerro San Cristóbal can either hike or ride a cable car to the summit, where a church and a 72-foot statue of the Virgin Mary stand. Although many travelers are unaware of it, Chile is home to a thriving wine industry; the country stands as the fifth largest exporter of wine in the world. Several distinct viticultural regions can be found along the coast, in the country's central valley, and in the Andes. Guided tours of wineries in these areas offer the opportunity to learn about the different varieties of grapes and winemaking techniques, while sampling the best vintages. Another popular destination within Chile is Chiloé Island, located in the Los Lagos Region. Due to its physical isolation from the mainland, the island has a unique culture that manifests itself in architecture, food, and local customs. Chiloé is also home to several wooden churches, many of which were built by the Spanish and Jesuit missionaries in the 16th century. For the following six weeks, each team competes in a single game every weekend. Moreover, the Upstate Lacrosse League runs tournaments, providing contestants with additional playing time. Teams practice twice a week on a schedule determined by coaches. The Upstate Lacrosse League provides a chance for boys and girls to participate in this sport. Boys need to purchase equipment ranging from helmets and sticks to mouth pieces and gloves; for girls, the group requires only sticks, goggles, and mouth pieces. Many people enjoy hiking because it allows them to stay active, to connect with nature, and to renew themselves. To make hiking as easy as possible, there are certain essential items that all hikers must have. The following are things one should have on every hike. 1. Hiking shoes or boots. Depending on the terrain and duration of the hike, there are generally four different types of hiking shoes/boots to choose from. 2. Navigation devices, such as maps, a compass, and GPS. These items are useful in finding campsites, water, and emergency exits. 3. Extra food and water. In order to prevent water-borne illnesses, hikers should also have a way to purify backcountry water. 4. Appropriate clothing. One should dress in layers, avoid cotton, and always carry a hat and sunglasses to avoid exposure to the sun. 5. Other items that can ensure safety, such as a first aid kit and sunscreen to further protect against sun exposure. 6. Various useful tools, such as a light, fire-starting implements, a whistle in case one needs to call for help, and a knife or a multipurpose tool, which can be used to repair other gear or to fashion useful items from available materials. 7. A daypack or backpack that can be used to carry items comfortably and easily and preferably has an option for rain cover. Having these essential items makes for a much more prepared hike.
